wtf happened to domain name price? I just renewed a .com and a .cloud, total was shy of 100 :/
I floated in the past idea of subletting subdomain or squatting whole new TLD with pirate resolver but damn, capitalism might motivate me enough to actually do it

The idea for TLD squatting would boil down to:
- setup an anchor, like 🌺.jellycopter.net
- run a regular DNS server on the anchor, advertising domain name with both the anchor subdomain and the full anchor as TLD (like louise.🌺 and louise.🌺.jellycopter.net)
- run a DNS resolver (pi hole is a DNS resolver) which is aware of your favorite squats
- setup a CoC for joining the squat

if you want to be fancy, the resolver could be forked for easily adding more squats

Subletting could begin easy. Start a ko-fi or a liberapay. For 1 buck people can claim one subdomain of 12 character or more. Claiming and config change is done by DM or something. Your castle, your rules.

Going fancy would be creating a webapp that collect the subscriptions, offer an interface for your renter to update their DNS themselves, automatically park expired subscriptions.
